Students recently had two opportunities to learn about what Penn State University has to offer after high school. On Monday, October 16 recruiter Kim Emigh from Penn State met with juniors and seniors interested in learning more about Penn State. On Tuesday, October 17, senior accounting students had the opportunity to visit the University Park campus to learn more about their business and accounting programs.
At the recruiting session, students learned about University Park as well as Penn State’s branch campuses. They heard about the variety of major offered by the University, and they had the chance to ask questions about things such as course selection in high school and the application process.
On Tuesday, the accounting students toured the campus with a student ambassador, met with WAHS 2023 graduate Sophia Crews who attends Penn State, met with people from the Smeal Business School, and ate lunch in the East dining hall. The students met Sophia Crews first thing in the morning. Crews explained the importance of taking accounting classes in high school if you plan to pursue that in college. She also explained that sometimes you might not get into the courses you want, and it is important to talk to your advisors to get as much help as you can.
Next, the group met with alumni and instructors from Smeal Business School. One person explained that accounting is more than just sitting at a desk, and that it might take a while for you to find your perfect fit in the accounting field. For example, he began as an auditor, hated his job, took another job in accounting, and now is a professor at Penn State.
“It was a great experience,” said senior Anyla Stewart. “I love that we got to learn about Penn State’s programs.”
