On Monday, Nov. 25, the high school held a Financial Aid informational meeting for seniors interested in attending college. Organized by career counselor Mrs. Kaitlin Eck and the guidance department, the session started at at 5:00pm in the Commons and approximately 90 people attended.
As attendees entered the school, they were given materials needed for the financial aid process, including a student aid guide and scholarship tips. Guest speaker Nancy Harvey from PHEAA then presented to students, parents, and guardians about the different types of financial aid available to them. Guests learned about the FAFSA, grants, private loans, and scholarships. Harvey specifically spent a lot of time walking through what documents and personal information are needed to file the FAFSA and the PA State Grant application.
She also spoke about considering what the total cost of attendance for the school is, including housing, food, books, materials, and more, because financial aid only typically covers 30-50% of what is needed. Additionally, she discussed what happens after you file for student aid, including what the documentation will look like, promissory notes, and what repayment options look like.
Students were asked to bring their Chromebooks with them for the second part of the presentation. For those who chose to stay, Harvey helped students and families set up their studentaid.gov accounts in real time. Accounts take 4-5 days to be verified, so these students got a head start on the process.
Overall, the session was well-attended and informative for many of our Millionaire families.
