On Tuesday, Sept. 16, the Millionaire Fly Fishing Club received a cooler-sized shipment of trout to house in their fish tank located in Mr. Schneider’s room in F213. The trout were brought in by Cedar Springs Trout Hatchery, based in Trout Lane, Mill Hall, PA, who offer a wide range of trout that they hatch themselves before selling them to the public. They offer many different types of trout, such as rainbow trout, golden rainbow trout, brown trout, brook trout (the trout the club received), and tiger trout. Which, as told by Blake, the representative from Cedar Springs Trout Hatchery who delivered the trout, is much similar to the process of hatching eggs.
Senior Zane Rogers brought the trout in and kept the cooler steady as two underclassmen took the bag of trout from the cooler and gently placed it in the fish tank. They held it there for around a minute as they gave the trout time to become accustomed to the water and temperature in their new home before being released into the water.
When asked about extra details on raising the trout, Blake commented: “We raise all of our own, so we start with the eggs and put them in the incubator. It’s a lot like chickens. Once they hatch, they go through all of the stages, and all that’s left is for us to feed them until we can sell them in the spring.”
