On Friday, Sept. 19, WAHS hosted the first show of the season for their renowned improv troupe, Without A Cue, in the Black Box Theater. WAC is a premier performance group that specializes in improvisational acting for students of all grades at the high school. The year was kicked off with Friday’s show, and the actors gave everyone the laugh they needed to start their weekend.
Around 15 students, currently grades 10-12, (with the possibility of any new member earning a spot) perform in shows that are typically monthly, a tradition that WAHS has seen since the early 2000s.
The group performs in activities that are positioned-based, pantomime-based, and sometimes even restricted speaking! The different activities exercise various pillars of off-the-cuff acting, which are displayed in each show from guessing games to being given a certain number of words to speak!
The troupe is directed by Mrs. Marie Fox, the former drama teacher who retired just last year, but still loves managing the troupe that she started decades ago. When asked about WAC, Mrs. Fox said, “I’m very happy to be back working with our improv troupe again! This new group of performers is full of energy and is sure to bring you lots of entertainment this season!”
Their next show is also in the Black Box, on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. Admission for students is $3 and $5 for adults. Come to the next show and being a friend for some spontaneous, witty humor for a fun Friday night!
