The Millionaires hoped to avenge last year’s loss to Hazleton this year, but things looked bleak by the bottom of the first inning when the girls went down by five runs.
Showing resilience and dedication to a common goal, the girls battled back. The game went back and forth, with each team leading several different times, before the girls triumphed 16-14 over Hazleton.
Sophomore Brenna Beck and junior Emily McAnelly both homered. McAnelly’s homer came late in the game to give the girls the lead.
“We were determined to win no matter what,” McAnelly said. “It was a total team effort.”
Sophomore pitcher Ashyln Robinson recorded the win.
The girls will face Downingtown East on Monday at home in the first round of state playoffs.
