On Oct. 31 and Nov. 11, 9th-grade students in Mrs. Keeler, Mrs. Reeder, and Mrs. Panko’s English classes visited the library for “book tastings” with the librarian, Mrs. Cajka.
Nearly 200 books were displayed on tables according to 17 different categories. Nonfiction books were set up by topic and fiction books were set up by genres. There were also tables for graphic novels/comics/manga and poetry/verse novels.
Students had the opportunity to preview up to five books of different topics or genres by rotating to different tables. They then previewed books by checking out tiles, covers, summaries, and first pages. After their rotations, they picked a book to check out for their second marking period independent reading.
This activity provides readers of all interest and ability levels the chance to see a sampling of what the library has to offer and to hopefully choose a book that they will stick with.
