Recently, a group of junior athletes attended a county-wide sports leadership convention at Loyalsock Area High School.  The convention was led by keynote speaker Craig Hillier. Hillier spent most of the time tying personal stories and life experiences to the concept of leadership. “The speaker did a good job relating everything to real life, not just to sports,” Alonzo Rice explained. “It was a great opportunity.”

“It was all about how to get through certain situations life throws at you,” Thomas Takach explained.

“The most important information I took away from the event was how being a     team captain doesn’t mean you are the best on the team. It’s about how you communicate and bring the energy up when it is down during a game,” explained Aubrey Glosser.

Following the keynote speech, Hillier organized interactive activities the students participated in.  Some of the team building activities included untangling a knotted string with a partner, playing a game of “tag” while keeping both of your legs touching entire time, and racing to complete challenges with a partner before other groups finished.

“I thought it was cool the way he engaged with us through the activities, and it was cool seeing different viewpoints of leadership,” Emma Jamison recalled.
