Level 2 and 3 biotechnology students attended a UPMC medical career day on Wednesday, April 19. Representatives from UPMC, local colleges and the military all had booths with information available for students.

Students learned about part-time job opportunities and summer programs available to them during high school, as well as about careers in the medical field they might consider after high school.

Junior Caleb Williamson visited the CPR table and the surgery simulation. “The surgery simulation was pretty cool. It was like a video game. You had to try to move the instruments around without killing the patient. It was actually pretty hard to do,” Williamson explained.

Junior Sarah Kelley felt the trip was very beneficial. “I would like to major in the biomedical field and the trip helped me get more information about next steps.”

Keyana Springman agreed. “There was lots of information about majors related to the field that we can possibly go into.”
