On Tuesday, Nov. 26, during night two of parent-teacher conferences, the WAHS counseling department brought a College & Career Fair to life in the Commons from 5:15-7:15pm.
Students and parents were greeted at the door with a map of the thirty-six tables that were set up for them to check out. Many local employers, such as the PA Dept. of Corrections, West Pharmaceuticals, Allison Crane & Rigging, Pneu-Dart, Leclerc, Wegmans, Glenn O. Hawbaker, River Valley YMCA, PA Dept. of Transportation, First Quality, Lycoming Engines, ESS, Hope Enterprises, Step, Inc., and more came to speak to students about job opportunities and the training or background needed to enter their fields.
Many military affiliates set up tables, including the PA Army National Guard, US Naval Academy, US Navy, PA Air National Guard. These tables were busy, with recruiters engaging a lot of interested students looking to serve their country in some capacity in their futures. Agencies such as OVR and PA Career Link also spoke to students, with Career Link even bringing a VR set-up to show how to do medical procedures.
Colleges and postsecondary schools were also present and handed out merch, including Lycoming College, Commonwealth University, Grand Canyon University, Lackawanna College, South Hills School of Business & Technology, Berks Technical Institute, and Penn College. Students were able to speak to representatives about their admission processes, areas of study, and more.
The event was well-attended and received positive feedback from those who chose to participate, especially with the option of transportation to and from WAMS to assist students and families.
