Youth Night kicked off on Friday, Sept. 18 as the Williamsport Millionaires took on Shikellamy with a pregame release statement from Shikellamy stating, “Tonight, we gathered together to enjoy a meal and, most importantly, to lift Williamsport player Tevin Williams up in prayer for complete healing and recovery.” This showed the teams’ gratitude towards our strong united team, supporting each other even through the toughest times. The final score was 44-48.
At the beginning of the game, the cheer and football youth Millionaire teams lined up on the field shortly after the WAHS Millionaires ran out onto the field. The game kicked off with the national anthem from the Marching Millionaires. As the kickoff to the weekend, Friday night served as a launch for the three busy days, including Sunday against rival Jersey Shore. As the game progressed to halftime, it featured a special appearance from the 2016 10th anniversary to honor past Millionaire achievements.
During the game, quarterback Zion Hughes put the team on his shoulders. Hughes accounted for 295 yards and three total touchdowns; he then rushed for 78 yards and scored two touchdowns. The Millionaires created excellent defensive plays for the night. When they were in the fourth quarter, they went 55 yards for a touchdown. Jaylen Williams also intercepted a pass, which set up a kick from Brayden Ungard, who scored a 39-yard goal.
During the game, the youth cheer team joined our WAHS cheer squad on the field, and they performed a performance during halftime with stunts from our WAHS cheer team. The student section was popping in purple outfits for the night of hope of suicide awareness and prevention.
